Winter Color (dormancy)
Winter Color (dormancy): Grasses come in two types, warm season and cool season. Generally, warm season grasses slow their growth rate in the winter months, turning a very light green or even brown. Select “Year Around Green” If you want to be assured that your grass is green in the winter.

Dark Green
Dark Green: Selecting this option will rank grasses by their natural green color from dark to light.
Fine Leaf Texture
Fine Leaf Texture: Selecting this option will rank grasses by their blade width from most narrow to widest.
Water Conserving
Water Conserving: This rank grasses by the water needed to keep them from getting brown.
Shade Tolerance
Shade Tolerance: Most plants, including grasses lose vigor as the amount of sunlight is reduced. Some more than others. Tifgreen for example is very strong in full sun, but the weakest in shade. The more shade you have, the more important this characteristic should be in your selection process.
Disease Resistance
Disease Resistance: This ranks the grasses from most disease resistant to least
Wear Tolerance
Wear Tolerance: This is most important for people that have animals or for lawn areas that will have daily children at play (like a day care center). None of the grasses will tolerate dog urine.
Resistance to Thatching
Resistance to Thatching: Thatch is the brown spongy underlayer that can be seen in some older lawns. It can be somewhat unstable to walk on, and also results in brown scalp marks when you mow.
